Used Yamaha motorcycles
September 16th, 2007An overview:
One of the most reliable and the most recognized brand in the world Yamaha motorcycles are the preferred choice of a lot of people. There are a lot of Yamaha bikes these days that are lined up in the showrooms of the dealers, in the private garages and with individuals that are waiting for a customer. So before going and buying a used Yamaha bike there are a lot of things that have to be checked.
Things to be checked:
Before getting the bike the prospective buyer should have a close inspection of the tires, clutch systems, electric and the battery systems, and the brakes of the bike. The best way to do all the above things is to take the bike on a test drive and put it on the ultimate test. The test drive does not only means taking the bike on a flat surface and thinking that the bike really works well and is running smoothly. The main purpose of any test drive is to detect the problems that were hidden during the initial assessment of the tires and the brakes. If you are a starter then the dealers may not agree upon the test drive but may insist upon buying the bike first and then have the drive on a money back guarantee.
How to give the bike an ideal test drive:
The important thing is to familiarize you with the used Yamaha bike before going on a test drive. During the test ride the bikes engine, clutch and the brakes operation should be given a closer look. Familiarizing with the bike should be the first thing to be kept in mind. At first speed up to 55 miles per hour while performing firm and gradual stops with the front and the back brake. This will surely give a very clear picture of the condition of the brakes of the bike. Now go for the tires of the bike and check for unnecessary wobbles. While riding along a smooth path try to detect the shaking up and down in accordance with the speed of the bike. The transmission of the bike should be given a very close look during the ride. Try to notice how smoothly the gears of the bike shifts during the test. Click changes on all the gears with a careful attention to the shifts between the first and the second gear because it is the largest change in the gears. There should be a decrease in the speed while changing the gear from the first to the second as not doing this would damage the bike. Check if the bike automatically gets out of gear when applying hard acceleration to it.
Steps when buying the bike:
There are basically three steps involved in the buying process of the Yamaha.
Firstly negotiate on the price of the bike. Inform the buyer about the blue book price and after evaluating the bikes condition the price that you are ready to pay.
Check for the feedback of the seller during an on line auction. Lastly decide upon the payment agreements.
