Using Motorcycle Insurance

April 6th, 2008

motorcycle insurance

A bad spill can happen to anyone at any time. You hit a patch of gravel, lose your balance and suddenly you and your bike both hit the pavement. What do you do when the bike is deemed “unfixable” by your mechanic? To begin with, you thank your lucky stars that you have motorcycle insurance. Just like car insurance, motorcycle insurance will allow you to be able to fix a bike that is fixable, or to buy a new one when your old one can go no further.

If you live in a state where you have snow half of the year or more, your motorcycle insurance may not be active until spring hits. It can be extremely tempting to take the bike out as soon as the snow starts to melt, but try to resist the urge, as not only can there be ice spots that you can’t see, but without motorcycle insurance you are driving illegally and have no coverage should something happen with your bike. Good motorcycle insurance may not afford you the ability to buy a BMW motorcycle, but it will give you a chance to ride even if your bike is trashed.

Information for Teens about Motorcycle Insurance

Spring is finally here, and more and more I hear about teens who are getting their motorcycle licenses and who are ready to go out and start looking at motorcycles for sale. Like most things in life, there are a few things that the average teen may not think of, and the first of those is motorcycle insurance.

Motorcycle insurance is not only a good thing to have, it is required. But insurance for teens, including motorcycle insurance, is usually extremely expensive. Before you decide to go with a specific company for your insurance, make sure you look around. There are a number of different companies that will often give teens a deal, especially if they have both their car and their motorcycle insurance on the same policy. You may also have to go through your parent’s insurance company, especially if you are under 18. Ask the insurance agent if you can get any special deals due to your parents good driving records, or if you can get a family plan, which often cuts the rate down quite a bit. Also, if you are put on as a secondary driver for the motorcycle, your rates will fall to a more manageable amount.

Visiting a Cycle Trader: A Woman’s Story

Cycle Trader

I heard a story from a female friend of mine recently that I just had to share. She was looking to buy a new, pre-owned Honda motorcycle and decided to look at the cycle traders in her area. She headed to a well-known motorcycle shop one day while she was in her car and talked with the salesman. According to my friend, he not only thought she was completely ignorant about bikes, he treated her rudely and made her feel extremely uncomfortable.

Unfortunately this is not uncommon in the world of women who ride bikes. More often than not, cycle traders will treat them as though they do not know anything about bikes, even if they have been riding for longer than the salesman has. This is one reason that many women are choosing to look online for their bikes. They are able to be treated fairly and with respect online when they are not able to receive the same treatment from the sellers in their area. It isn’t fair or right that women are treated differently, even when they share the same passions, and I’m glad that they are at least able to be treated fairly online.

Top Ten Reasons to Use an Online Cycle Trader

Cycle Trader

Trying to decide whether to visit a motorcycle shop in your local area or whether to buy your dream bike online can be a hard decision. Here are the top ten reasons that you should consider using an online cycle trader.

1. An online bike trader will have a much bigger selection available because their space is not limited.
2. Motorcycles for sale online are almost always less expensive than those in your area.
3. Used motorcycles in a shop in your area are more likely to be much more worn down, whereas used bikes online are usually in much better shape.
4. Many buyers find that they can only find the specific bike they are looking for using an online cycle trader.
5. The salesmen at dealerships get paid on commission, so pressure is a given. Online, however, there is no pressure to buy.
6. You can ask questions that only the original owners would know, giving you a real feel of how well the bike looks and runs.
7. Some cycle trader site have very low, or even no, commission, making the price for your bike even less expensive.
8. In some areas, one brand of bike is more readily available than others. Online, however, you can find anything.
9. It is much more relaxing to shop online, as you can do so from the comfort of your own home!
10. Most motorcycle buyers say that they find what they want faster, and for much less money, online.

The First Visit to a Cycle Trader

Looking for your first motorcycle can be both a fun and nerve-wracking experience. On one hand you want to be able to go into a cycle trader and come out with a motorcycle that you love, but on the other hand you may worry that you will be treated unfairly. Unfortunately there are some motorcycle businesses that take a “snobbish” attitude, believing that only one brand of motorcycle is the best, and they push this attitude on their customers.

In order to get through your first visit to a cycle trader, go in with a ballpark idea of what you are looking for. If, for instance, you enjoy Yamaha motorcycles, do some browsing around online in order to get a good idea of what kind of bike you like. The more information you can give your trader, the easier it will be to get a bike that you can truly enjoy. Many motorcycle buyers, however, find after a visit to a flesh and blood motorcycle trader that they can get better deals, and more selection, by going through a cycle trader online. If you’re buying your first bike, you may want to go to a dealership simply to get a feel of the bike, but never count out the possibility of finding your perfect motorcycle online.
